Photography by Clive Barda

Clive Barda has, for all my adult performing life, been the photographer to seek out and to admire when looking for that true moment on the face of a musician. The agony and the ecstasy of playing, the intense concentration, the offstage mirth, all have been brilliantly recorded by this profoundly perceptive and modest man. Imagine our excitement when he told me he wanted to make a photographic record of the main part of ICMT’s work, our teaching week in Provence. I am thrilled with the results, which have his perceptive acuity stamped all over. I love the connection between his subjects, an invisible line of communication that echoes so profoundly what we felt. I urge you to enjoy this selection of his work, and I thank him warmly for coming! In April 2024, the study week took place at our usual venue near Eygalières at Le Mas de la Rasclaouse. The scholars participating were American pianists Rachel Breen and Anthony Ratinov, both graduates of Yale University and the Julliard School.
